If you travel all over Sri Lanka, you can see the misery of street dogs on every corner. What the people at DCC are doing, is wonderful. In no other corner of Sri Lanka I have seen such a harmony between the humans and the street dogs as in Unawatuna. All the locals are excited about the work at DCC. And that even far beyond the city borders of Unawatuna. Sri Lanka needs more places like this one. Unlike European NGOs, the DCC is not entirely supported by donations. Each of us should support their fantastic work. I highly recommend a visit at the DCC – make your own picture of the work there. Let's say it in the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Awesome work that these guys do! So many beautiful dogs. The vet here gave us some really good advice for a stray cat that we had found. Unfortunately they were not able to take the kitten in but they gave us a free treatment for the cat and prescribed some medications.

There are lots of stray dogs in Sri Lanka, and they are quite often neglected, abandoned, or abused. This place is primarily funded by a German lady who pumps in €50,000 every month. The work they do is to catch the stray dogs and bring them to the clinic, where they receive inoculations and any medication, as well as getting castrated. The dogs are cared for by very passionate dog lovers who name them all individually. They try to re-home whenever possible and run schemes to house them with pensioners, providing them with a small monthly stipend. They are good people.
