  Our good friends introduced us to Upul, house owner / manager. Upul became our friend too. We stayed four nights in the Hettimulla River House. The Hettimulla is a tranquil Sri Lankan village. The guesthouse is placed in a beautiful garden. There are plenty of trees (including coconuts) and bushes. The trees are inhabited by many birds. We saw a woodpecker, kingfisher and parrots. An unknown bird was knocking on our window in the morning. You can also listen to monkees and other animals. The Hettimulla river flows around the garden. You can sometimes see small boats passing the garden. There is a railway in the village. You can hear trains passing the village. People commute to Colombo in the morning. The Hettimulla village offers insights into real life of local people. You can watch them working in the fields or running small-time shops. If you like beach life, gorgeous parties and loud music, then Hettimula is not for you. The village offers tranquil and relaxed lifestyle. However, if you want to go to the beach, then the Beruwela beach is about 25-35 minutes walk. The riverhouse's appartments are simple, but clean and spacious. There is fridge and shower, but no TV. You are not going to miss it. Upul makes his best to make people feel like home. I, for example, am on the gluten free diet. Sri Lankan people do not know much about that, but Upul promptly prepared sweet Sri Lankan breakfast for me: halapa pancakes from rice flour and with coconut and honey. Excellent!

  Sehr sehr schöne und ruhige Unterkunft. Sehr nettes Management, sehr gepflegte Anlage, alles toll. Sie bringen einen zu vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten, zum Flughafen, whatever. Idealer Standort für die ersten und/oder die letzten Tage eines SL Trips. Und natürlich auch für einen viel viel längeren Aufenthalt...

  Best place to enjoy holidays in Beruwala. Good food and service. Happy :)
