James Taylor introduced commercial tea production into Ceylon, operating at Loolecondera estate. The house, built by a British planter over 100 years ago, in 1865. At the beginning, James Taylor made his tea in the bungalow verandah with the leaf being hand-rolled on tables. Clay stove & charcoal fires were used for firing the oxidized leaves.

Loolkandura(ලූල්කඳුර) or Loolcondera (the tea estate is also known as Kondagala/කොන්ඩගල by villagers) is a historical place which was the 1st tea plant planted in Sri Lanka and 1st commercial tea estate in Sri Lanka. On the other hand you must visit this place, because it is a paradise on the planet. From Kandy it is a one day trip. Directions - Best way is coming via Deltota road from Kandy. But after Mahakanda area the road become narrower and winded. If you are using public transport services, you can take Deltota(දෙල්තොට) bus and then you have switch to a Hewaheta(හේවාහැට) bus from Deltota bus stand. Then you can get off at the entrance of the tea state. From here there is about 4km to Taylers cottage and Taylers seat. There is an entry fee for foreigners and vehicles, but locals can walk free. If you really want to enjoy the nature, I'm suggesting you to make it on foot to the Taylor's seat. Sure you will have thousands of different angles for natural and landscaping photography. But it shouldn't be a too sunny or a rainy day for that. Walking through the tea estate would be a marvellous experience and you won't miss anything. We spent about 4 hours for reach the Taylor's cottage and that time wasn't a waste. But when we came down via same route, it took only 1.5 -2 hours. Don't miss - *Ma oya - This is there a few meters away from the entrance.(Deltota-Hewaheta main road) Clean and shallow water. Nice place to have a bath. *A cottage in water *Taylor's abundant bungalow and well. *Taylor's seat - There is a side stair way to go down. That could be easily missed. *First tea plant in Sri Lanka. Make sure - * you are carrying enough water, refreshments and snacks with you. *you are not ruining the beauty of the nature. Just enjoy the fresh air and the views. Finally I can guarantee that you will have a great experience with breath taking beauty of this paradise. Travel safe.
