This is a very average museum—the National Museum down the street has more artifacts and better descriptions of the history of Galle and Sri Lanka. This museum has plenty of signage, but the English translations are of poor quality. The artifacts on display are impressive and reflect the maritime history of the area, but there just aren’t many of them. The intro video also doesn’t really give you the scope you need to appreciate the museum, although the bit about the sunken Dutch ship is really interesting. The entrance fee is a little high, again in comparison to the other nearby museums.

These items could have presented more interesting manner. Not very informative. But there are lots of things to see including a submerged ship residuals.

They had discount rates for indians! yey! Though not sure why. It was a good museum with detailed explanation of things. As you enter watch the small movie which gives a good background of things you are about to see. Its a small museum and won't take you more than 20-25 minutes. Good visit in Galle.

The museum is cozy and nice. There are two entrances but the main one is on the top. The ticket for foreigners are priced at 5$ and for locals 50rs. It's worth the price though. As soon as you get in you see a large model of a ship. The museum experience starts with a detailed video about the Galle fort and the bays around and then about the maritime archeological finds. Then you go to the museum and it's four sections. Each with a bit of difference but same ambience. You get a brief history about everything. The bottleneck finds look really intriguing. On the ground floor you'll see the spoils from the ship and the huge anchor, cannon and such. It's a nice experience if you are in Galle fort.
