  This is an old religious place. But all the construction work has recently been completed. According to the history, when Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Bo Tree was taken by Theri "Sangamiththa" (daughter of King Ashoka) from India to Sri Lanka in 288BC ,king Devanampiyathissa of Sri Lanka had been to Jaffna to receive Theri Sanghamiththa and the group On the group's way back to Anuradhapura, 'Naga' tribesmen of Jaffna requested the king to keep the Bo tree with them for a one week. Accordingly, the Bo Tree branch had been planted in Jaffna (where present Naga Viharaya is located.) for a one week before it was finally brought to Anuradhapura.

  Nagadeepa Purana Vihara (Sinhalese: නාගදීප පුරාණ විහාරය, Tamil: நயினாதீவு நாக விகாரை) is an ancient Buddhisttemple situated in Jaffna district of Northern Province, Sri Lanka. It is among the country's sixteen or seventeen holiest Buddhist shrines (Solosmasthana).[1] According to contemporary history, the Gautama Buddhavisited the site after five years of attaining Enlightenment to settle the dispute between two warring Naga kings, Chulodara and Mahodara.

  That is the only Buddhist temple in Jaffna peninsula other than Nagadeepa. Logging facilities are available. Located in the central of the city.

  its near to jaffna railway station. No monks.That place having vishrama shala ( quarters ) also. Maintaining by forces.

  Beautiful temple at the middle of the jaffna town. But some times it was not cleaning. Has separate pilgrimage rest for the temple. In holidays it will be crowded.
