I stayed 2 nights with my partner at Omelga Inn in Anuradhapura (near the new bus station). We paid 1600 Rs per night instead of 1800 Rs (1600 was still out of our budget but anyway, we paid 2 nights : 3200 Rs). We checked out this morning and the owner showed us his phone with 2600 written on it. We thought he was asking for money, we told us we already paid for two nights but that we paid 3200 Rs. He said "no, that's what you gave me". Hmmmm ok. We went out in the street, had 5 minutes of thinking and understood that we paid 600 Rs more that what we should have paid. Going in again and asked the owner for explanations. Now, he doesn't know how to speak English and the only thing he says is "ok ok ok no problem!". 15 minutes after, he admits that the price per night is 1300 Rs but that we had a discount (1600 instead of 1300, great discount!). I remember his friend gave us a card of the hostel with prices on it. It's not in English but I can see 1300 for something. I show him the card and he tells me that 1300 Rs are for 2 hours of internet ahah ! After ten more minutes, he admits that it's the price for SL people. He keeps the card and he gives me another card in English with no price on it. Best businessman ever. After 30 minutes of talking, of "okokok no problem" and of phone calls to his friend (trying to be busy so he doesn't have to speak with us), we just asked politely for our 600 Rs back but he didn't want to. His mistake, he told us in the first place that we gave him 2600 Rs for 2 nights. It's not about the money (600 Rs is 3.60€, it's nothing except maybe three or four meals in here...). It's about being respectful with foreigners that give them money to live. I traveled for more than one year and it's the first time something like this happens.
