    Our guide/driver knew of this place and took us there after our tour of Sigiriya Rock. It was very clean and pleasant atmosphere and tasty food. It’s a rather large dining room, so tours could be accommodated pretty easily. Our driver told us that the owner used to be a tour driver himself. We ordered the fried rice lunch plates and ginger beers. The fried rice was tasty and they had homemade chili spice that enhanced the flavors. And if you haven’t tasted the Sri Lanka ginger beer, you’re in for a sweet and ginger-y treat!

    Few months ago we made a reservation via the hotel’s front desk for 18 rooms (63 people full board) for the 27th Aug 2016. We received the confirmation and the invoice with a discount on the 21st of July 2016. Reservation and the discount was negotiated with a person by the name Dushikanth at Royal Retreat’s front desk. We received the invoice from [email protected]. 50% of the invoice was paid on the 27th of July 2016. Then a little over a week before we are due to arrive (19th Aug), Royal Retreat’s general manager (Withanage A Silva) gets involved and cancels our reservation. His excuse was that Dushikanth had gone on holidays so they couldn’t find the quote/details of our booking and have been quoted incorrectly. According to Mr. Withanage A Silva, it’s our fault that we didn’t check the quote we got from HIS staff via their RESERVATIONS email address. Seriously, Mr. Withanage A Silva, have you every booked a hotel yourself? Do you call the general manager/CEO or the owner of the hotel to check if the resevationg you got from the hotel booking service or the front desk to find out if that’s accurate??? What sort of a General Manager are you if you don’t know what your staff is quoting and if you can’t find quotes when your staff go on leave? Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a hotel for 63 people under a week? Fortunately, we did find a hotel, but I have no words to describe Mr Withanage A Silva’s incompetence as a General Manager and disgusted with the service.
