::The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation was established in 1971 under the State Industrial Corporations Act Number 49 of 1957. This far-sighted decision was the result of the report submitted by Prof. Senaka Bible and Dr.S.A. Wickramasinghe report (March 1971) based on an assignment given to them by the then Prime Minister, Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Going by the vision of its founding father Professor Senaka Bibile, the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) has at all times striven to provide quality assured drugs at prices that are reasonable in the market. For the past 40 years SPC has been the sole supplier of pharmaceuticals, surgical consumable Items, laboratory chemicals and equipment to all institutions administered by the health ministry.

::The usual government medical staff. Slow service as ever. Definitely need a prescription to buy medicine. Very limited parking. Went their last week and suddenly the computer that the staff was punching our bill crashed and this staff member never bothered to go to the other billing computer to punch our order, but rather kept us waiting and chatting with my wife who is a regular here because of cheaper price of medicine and availability of generic medicine. After trying to restart the computer and figure out the problem which took more than 15 minutes we got the bill. In total we spent about 30 minutes and mind you when there were only 4 customers in the entire store on a weekday afternoon, while there were 6 staff behind the counters to manage the retail showroom. What a waste if human resources. Make sure you have enough time to spend to get your cheaper medicine here. Do not go here if your patient is critically in need of medicine for survival.

::The business is a service to the public, so the prices are cheap. But service have to improve more. Some drugs not available. They don't give a straight answer and the front line crew don't have a knowledge about some medical equipments. I must Appreciate this institution for the service.
