  University of Sri Jayewardenepura most commonly known as “Japura” is a unique and delightful locale. Life at Japura is certainly a most exiting experience that you are ever going to get as a university student. The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has a long history dating back to 1873 when the Vidyodaya Pirivena was established by the erudite monk Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero who established the pirivena as a center for Oriental learning. The University first commenced its academic activities with five faculties: Buddhist studies, Philosophy, Languages, Arts, Ayurveda and Science. The five faculties worked under 22 departments.Today the university has seven main faculties: Applied Sciences, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Studies and Commerce, Medical Sciences, and Technology. University has built its' reputation around the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce which is the most. In 1962, Department of Science elevated to a Faculty of Applied Sciences and G. C. N. Jayesuriya became the first Dean of the Faculty. The current Dean of the Faculty is Sudantha Liyanage from the Department of Chemistry. J’pura is truly a special place with lush greenery, wide spaces and winding paths that invite you to explore our delightful grounds.   This is a well known university of sri lanka.This was started as a "Pirivena" a place where use to provide education for buddhist monks mainly.With the passage of time this place was elevated to the status of "University".Nowdays the university is equipped with seven faculties.Those are Applied Sciences,Engineering,Humanities & Social Sciences,Management Studies & Commerce,Medical Sciences,Graduate Studies & Technology.As well as the renown "Post graduate Institute of Management (PIM)" also an affiliate of Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce.This university has become the first choice of the students those who have passed G.C.E(A/L) examination in commerce stream.

  University of Sri Jayewardenepura and also called "Widudaya Sarasawiya" is one of best university of Sri Lanka. "J'pura" is the short form name of the university. The core founders of the university of Sri Jayewardenepura are "Ven Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala thero" and "Ven Valiwitiye Sri Soratha thero". There are seven faculties offering huge amount of degree programs. Each and every year mother J'pura make thousands of productive people into the Sri Lankan community. There is a library which have over 200,000 books. Not only that the university have Gym, Swimming pool, Basketball court, Volleyball court, Netball court also. And there is a play ground called "Gal Pitteniya". "Sumangala" building is the most famous and historic building in the university. Over 10000 students studying here.
