::I have worked in leprosy controls program of Sri Lanka health ministry. This ancient leprosy hospital is under that unit. This suposed to be the first civil hospital in Sri Lanka. Probably first one in whole Asia. It started by duch people in 1704 who rule costal area's of Sri Lanka those era. It was used to be the leprosy aylum when treatment for leprosy not available and segregstion is the only way to contral the leprosy. Still there are nearly 30 patient who were admitted befor the treatment found. Most of them have sufferd from disease. But now they are free of leprosy but their family members are forgot them. Oldest patient age is 80 years and he was admitted around 1950s. Youngest one age 60 years admitted around 1970s. Sri Lanka health ministry has taken decition keep this hospital and one day convert it to elderly hospital.
