::According to folklore, the Lord Buddha happened to have a bath at this place in his 3rd arrival of Sri Lanka. After The Buddha’s ‘‘Parinibbāna’’, his relics were enshrined and worshipped in stupas by the buddhist kings. Legends say the relic in this stupa is the bathing dress (“Nānasaluwa”) the Lord Buddha was wearing by then. Buddhist legends hold that during his lifetime the Buddha flew to Sri Lanka and left his footprint on several places to indicate the importance of Sri Lanka as the perpetuator of his teachings, Adams Peak (“Sri Pādaya”) being the major place. According to them this too is one of those places and people do worship it in here as well. There’s a canoe service the devotees can use to come here from Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya across the Kelani River.
