Rajapaksa Wickramasekera Mudiyanselage Bandaranayake Monarawila Keppetipola (Sinhala:රාජපක්ෂ වික්‍රමසේකර මුදියන්සේලාගේ බණ්ඩාරනායක මොනරවිල කැප්පැටිපොල), more widely known as Keppetipola Disawe was a Disawe, a high-ranking official under the rule of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe and later under the British Administration in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon). He was a prominent leader of the Uva rebellion of 1818 after he joined the rebels whom he was sent to suppress by the British. The rebellion was defeated by the British, and Keppetipola Disawe along with several other leaders of the rebellion were found guilty of high treason and sentenced to death. He is well known for the exceptional courage that he showed at the moment of his execution, and is now a national hero of Sri Lanka.

1500 rupees/person to get in, then you're forced to take off your shoes (ofc, no problem with this), BUT they reeeally want a "donation" for storing your shoes. All in all, it's pretty costly (in comparison to most things in Sri Lanka) and not really a must-do thing as a non-buddhist.

The skull of Monarawila Keppetipola Disawe, who led the 1818 Uva Rebellion against the British rule, is entombed here. He was one of the signatories of 1815 Kandyan Treaty and was sent by the British to the suppress the rebellion. However he joined the natives and led the outnumbered rebel forces against British forces. He was eventually captured and sentenced to death in 1818. He boldly faced the executioner requesting to be decapitated in a single stroke of the sword. His skull was later taken to Britain for study and returned to Sri Lanka after independence.
