  As you progress along the Colombo-avissawella main road, you shall find the kaluaggala junction from which when you take a turn to the left and go on for a mere 14km, it will lead you to the labugama tank. This place of great beauty is also a place of great importance as it gives the life form for the country’s commercial capital’s water needs. As the people have brought forward the story behind the great existence of the tank, from their ancestors, it was the Prince of Wales in 1875 who had proposed this tank and showed the feasibility of satisfying Colombo’s water requirement from Labugama. And thus, the construction of the tank commenced in 1882. By 1886 the tank was able to commence the flow of water to Colombo and it holds a remarkable capacity of 1960 million gallons of water. It provides 16% of Colombo’s water requirement. So, how does one find water for a tank; you find a reliable source such as the Kelani River, go along the course till it branches off to create the Wak Oya and place the tank at the tip of this brook. The Labugama province receives approximately 3000ml of water with the monsoon rains and with that you have the story behind water for the tank. කොළඹ-අවිස්සාවේල්ල ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගයේ කලුඅග්ගල හංදියෙන් දකුණට හැරී 14km ගිය තැන ඔබට ලබුගම ජලාශයේ පිවිසුම් ‍ෙදාරටුව හමු‍ෙව්. ඒතැන සිට ලබුගම ජලාශයට 1km දුරක් ඇත.සුන්දර පරිසරයක පිහිටි ලබුගම ජලාශය ‍ෙකාළඹ ජනතාවට ජලය ලබා දීමට තැනූ මුල්ම ජලාශයයි. 1882 වර්ෂෙය් ලබුගම ජලාශය තැනීම ආරම්භ විය. මෙම ජලාශය මෙම ස්ථානයේ පිහිටුවීමටත් මෙහි සිට කොළඹට ජලය ලබා දීමට හැකි බවට 1875 ලංකාවට පැමිණි වෙල්ස් කුමාරයා යෝජනා කල බව ජනප්‍රවාදයේ සදහන් වේ. 1882 තැනීම ආරම්භකොට 1886 වන විට කොළඔ ජනතාවට ජලය ලබාදීම ඇරඹින. ලබුගම ජලාශය ධාරිතාවය ජල ගැලුම් මිලියන 1960කි.ලබුගම ජලාශයෙන් කොළඹට අවශ්‍ය සමස්ත ජල ප්‍රමානයෙන් 16% ප්‍රමානයක් ලබා දේ. ලබුගම ජලාශය කැළනි ගගේ අතු ගංගාවක් වන වක් ඔය ඉස්මත්තේ පිහිටා ඇත.මෙයට ජලය ලැබෙන්නේ මෝසම් වැසි මගිනි. ලබුගම ප්‍රදේශයට වාර්ෂික වර්ෂාපතනය 3000ml පමණ වේ. ලබුගම ජලාශයේ සිට 1kmදුරින් කලටුවාවල ජලාශය පිහිටා ඇත.නුවරඑලියට සමාන දේශගුණයකින් යුතුය. බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයන් අතින් 1954 දී කලටුවාවල ජලාශය නිර්මානය ආරම්භ විය. වසර 06 ඇතුලත එනම් 1960 දී මෙය විවෘත විය. අඩි 66 උස වේල්ල අඩි 950 ක් දිගින් යුක්තය. පළල අඩි 08 කි. ඝන මීටර් 84000 ජලය ලබා ‍දේ. ලබුගමට වඩා එය දෙගුනයකි.එය සමස්ත ජල ප්‍රමානයෙන් 17%කි. මෙම ස්ථාන නැරඹීම:- නැරඹිමට අවශ්‍ය අය‍‍‍‍ගේ නම් ඔවුන් ගේ හැදුන්ම්පත් අංකය සමග නැරඹිමට අවශ්‍ය දිනය සදහන් ලිපියක්, සහකාර සාමාන්‍යාධිකාරි, ජාතික ජල සම්පාදන හා ජල ප්‍රවාහන මණ්ඩලය, උඩු මුල්ල පාර, නව නගරය, මුල්ලේරියාව. යන ලිපිනයට යොමු කිරීමෙන් අවසර ලබා ගත හැක.වැඩි විස්තර 011-2418531 දරන අංකයෙන් ද ලබා ගත හැක. මෙම ජලාශ වලට අමතරව තවත් සුන්දර ස්ථාන රැසක් මෙම ප්‍රදේශය තුල දැක ගත හැක.ඒ අතර රන්මුදු ඇල්ල, කුමාර ඇල්ල ඇතුලු දිය ඇළි කීපයක් වේ.

  Awesome place near my home. Place to visit for relaxation . Also for the fruits in the jungle. In dry seasons you can see the ruins of old Kalatuwawa town in the lake
