::Tire and memorial located at Norton Bridge. Sri Lanka experienced its first major air disaster late on the night of December 4, 1974. The plane, a giant DC-8 jetliner on a Mecca-bound charter flight, crashed at Maskeliya(seven Virgins) killing all 191 passengers and crew. Among the dead were 182 Indonesian Muslims on a Haj pilgrimage.

::This small memorial has been built in the town of Norton Bridge, which is several miles from the crash site of Martinair Flight 138. In addition, a tire which was recovered from the crash site has been put on display to the public. The tire, even though displayed in public, remains property of the Norton Bridge Police. Sri Lankan artist Anton Jones sang about the incident in his song "DC8." This is located edge of the popular Norton Bridge reservoir dam. Don't forget to watch this place on your way to Sri Padha aka Adam's peak. You will be happy to find a parking slot next to the memorial.
