::Muthurajawela wetlands Muthurajawela is a marsh in Sri Lanka in the southern region of the Negombo lagoon, 30 km (19 mi) north of Colombo. The Muthurajawela Marshes are 3,068 ha (7,580 acres) in area and the country's largest saline coastal peat bog.[1] The marsh is notable for its unique and highly diverse ecosystem and is listed as one of 12 priority wetlands in Sri Lanka. "Muthurajawela" translates to "Swamp of Royal Treasure".

::Visitors are confined only to the boat and not possible to get out to explore the area. Only few birds depending on your luck can be viewed. Please don't go with high expectations after reading the website. If you come across more than 5 species you are lucky. More than 10 species you are very lucky. but don't expect more than that.

::Can go in the main road, but if you are going in a bicycle there is a pretty much fun route to get there.. friendly and kind staff, offered us tea. 1600 to get a boat, guide and the boatsman was really patient a knowledgeable.. highly recommended for school students to learn about wetlands.

::Starting point for a relaxed boat ride along the canal and in lagoon. If you are lucky can spot a crocodile. Boats have a cover against the sun. Unfortunately as it is a highly populated area, there tends to be some garbage floating along the shore.
