  Research & Development Division (R&D) is the one of main division in Road Development Authority (RDA) which is doing research works related to Highway Sector and is the central laboratory of RDA.R&D division consist of 6 sub laboratories; Soil Lab, Bitumen Lab, Concrete Lab, Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) Lab, Photometric & Visibility (P&V) Lab and Chemistry Lab with modern equipment. R&D division undertaken all the investigations in any location related to road constructions and provide structural pavement designs for roads. Also this division offers testing facilities for outsiders for a low cost. Testing facilities could be request by sending a request letter and most of test are available under each category. Soil Lab (CBR, DCP, Density, water content, Benkelman Beam Deflection, etc.), Concrete Lab (Strength of concrete, Mix design, AIV, LIV, Steel testing, etc.), Bitumen Lab ( Asphalt concrete mix designs, penetration, softening point, solubility, viscosity test, etc., P&V Lab ( selectivity of road studs/road marking/sign boards, Skid of Road marking, thickness, testing of thermoplastic materials), PMB Lab (Rheological properties of Asphalt, Pressure aging vessel test, Rolling thin-film oven test), Chemistry Lab( chemical testing for Soil, Chemical testing for steel and chemical testing for cement). Also R&D Division consist of Boring unit which investigation the subsurface properties by doing boreholes. Mainly this division has two units can do investigations at the same time. R&D Division undertaken laboratory demonstrations and training programs on request.
