::Samudragiri temple is located in Mirissa Weheragalla in Matara district. A number of paintings which belongs to the Down South style can be seen in the Buddha image house in this temple. Many painting can be found in the ceiling of the Ambulatory here. Painting begin from the top of the western wall. Paintings begin from the story of buddhas previous life before enlightenment where he lived in “thusitha devlova”. The top strip of paintings show the story of prince siddharatha’s birth and his childhood. The later strip shows the Jathaka katha, Kanthiwadi Jathakaya, Sama Jathakaya, Sasa Jathakaya and Kurudhamma Jathakaya. In addition to these, the paintings of incidents in the six “Kamachchara Diviwaloka” and “Apaya” can be found here. As a whole paintings of this temple show similarities to “Kathaluwa Purwanamaya” temple paintings.
