This is a scam, the people who run this are liars and con artists. They do not care about turtles and are in fact contributing to the species demise They have turtles in tiny tanks that are fit and healthy and should be released. They lie about the length of time turtles have been there. The business model is to buy eggs from locals wait until they hatch and then release them 5 at a time for 1500SLR. What this does is A. Encourage people to dig up turtle nests to sell to the hatchery B. The fact that they are releasing 5 turtles at a time means that there is no safety in numbers and easy picking for predators when eventually released. They let people touch and handle the poor turtles for photo ops and it really was really such a sad thing to see.

Short tour (30 minutes approx) is informative and the guide was very friendly and answered our questions well. Our tour was in English but it appeared you could get the tour in other languages (our guide spoke some Russian). We paid extra in order to release a baby turtle which had been born in the hatchery. They also had a number of turtles which they were tending to until they were well enough to be released back to the sea.

A cool place to check out for a few minutes. Some really good efforts being carried out by the people to help conserve the sea turtles. A great way to support the efforts by entering this site

If you have the time stick around and ask questions. They do need to move the groups along, but you can hang out. Go to the fantastic beach. Ask more questions. They know their business. The sea water is changed weekly, they pump it from the ocean. The eggs need to be protected from the human predators. It's good to help the sick and weak. I personally think turtles are better served by egg protection than by helping a small number of invalids.
