::A family member from Nepal applied for a South African visa so she could join us (US citizens) in South Africa for a safari. Airfare was purchased, safari fees were paid, etc. This embassy took too long to return the visa, and as a result, we lost a significant amount of money on airfare, safari fees, etc. We scrambled to contact the embassy a few days before departure so we could arrange the visa/passport to be sent to India for pickup or transferred to the Nepali embassy a couple of blocks away in case they could return the documents to Kathmandu within a couple of days. They never answered their phone (after I purchased a $10 calling card to contact them) during their business hours. So much money lost and zero help from them. Avoid like the plague. While I loved South Africa, I would recommend visiting another country instead...one that actually takes care of their visa applicants in a timely manner.
