  My husband and I heard online that hiring a private driver is the best way to tour Sri Lanka. After looking at several online reviews, we chose the Sri Lankan Tour Guide and are so glad we did. The trip pre-planning customer service with the company owner, Sarath, was fantastic! We explained we are in our late 40's and our interests were: Temples, hiking in nature, seeing wildlife, and relaxing on the beach. We had very little interest in shopping, city tours or nightlife. He made very appropriate suggestions (one excellent suggestion was being dropped in one city to take the train through the mountains and being picked up in another city) and adjusted our pre-researched itinerary slightly. We experienced quick replies to emails, in clear English, with confirmations our requests could be accommodated and excellent additional suggestions for stops along our route. We were greeted at 5am at the airport by our driver, Steeve, holding a card with our full names on it. He helped with our luggage and asked us to wait curbside as he pulled up in a luxurious car that would be our home-base for the next 10 days. It was beyond our expectations, having read online to ensure rented cars have seat belts, air conditioning and are reliable. Based on what we thought was a very good daily fee, we didn't expect to get in to a new, large, comfortable SUV with AC and leather bucket seats that reclined. The week could not have gone more smoothly. We toured nearly the entire island and saw all the key sites. In addition, Steeve showed us lots of off the beaten track experiences. He often stopped at roadside stands to purchase something for us to taste (like water buffalo yogurt and coconut honey!) Having our own driver, we didn't feel like the typical tourists on large buses being dragged from site to site. If we wanted to skip something or add something or just relax with a cool beverage at a small cafe overlooking the ocean, all we had to do is say, "Steeve, find a place for us to stop!" If we needed help negotiating a purchase, he was always with us. During a rare uncomfortable situation, he calmly walked us to the other side of the road or said, "Please stay in the vehicle." We also had a lot of alone time as he would drop us whenever we wanted and be "on call" via text on his cell phone for when we wanted him to come back. So we felt like we had a lot of privacy as well. Not only did we experience excellent customer service, we met a new lifelong friend. We highly recommend this company and its drivers.

  If you would like to enjoy Sri Lanka you absolutely have to choose Sarath – Sri Lankan Tour Guide. Sarath had not just been a guide, he became a friend; a beautiful and experienced person, very well English speaking, good expert from ancient history up to nowadays, connoisseur of religions, especially Buddhism, everyday smiling and relaxing.
