  Absolutely breathtaking church situated in the heart of Matara. This church, not big in size, sits by the side of the very famous Matara beach. This shrine is a Roman Catholic church devoted to the Virgin Mary, and houses a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. Many sources claim this statue is over 400 years old and has been damaged, lost and found more than once.
