::My great-grandmother, grandmother and mother all studied at Uduvil Girl's School. My great-grandmother Eunice Mann was the first girl to be enrolled in the English School in 1897 and my grandmother Daisy Alagaratnam was the school's first university graduate in 1923. My mother went on to study Science in the University of Ceylon (in Colombo) in the 1950s. The first 100 years of the school's history is published in "Uduvil's First One Hundred Years" by Minnie Hastings Harrison. This book provides an insight into the battle for converts from Hinduism to Christianity that lay at the foundations of the school; and the progressive changes to a more secular educational system.
