  A well known Gem & Jewellery trade centre. Have varieties of Gems, Gold and silver jewellery. Patronised mainly by foreigners. A hospitable and cordial service centre in Kandy city.

  DO NOT GO HERE! I decided to have my birth stone made into a ring with a silver band at Prasanna Gem Centre. The staff had sat me down and gave me the choice of only a few stones. I selected the stone and i chose the ring design. As soon as I chose the ring they were so quick to ask me for the money without my ring. I paid $120 AUD for this ring straight up. The next day I picked up my ring and it looked beautiful and shiny, exactly what I wanted. So we left. The next day I noticed that I had black marks showing up on my ring band. I thought it was just dirt. I tried everything to clean it to get these marks off. They wouldn't come off. By this time we had left Kandy and I was so disappointed because I had been looking forward to having a ring made in Sri Lanka with my birthstone. I decided to take my ring to two different places. Both places said the same thing, that I was ripped off and they had used cheap silver. It was silver but not stirling silver and there must of been a chemical reaction to the ring. I was fuming because I had to pay an extra $60AUD to get my ring band replace with proper stirling silver. Prasanna Gem Centre is a rip off and fake! Do not go here! They made my experience and holiday hell for 3 days. The better places to go are the small businesses. The big businesses will rip you off and use cheap jewllery! I am just thankful for the small business in Unuwatuna who could fix my ring, explain it in detail and they did a wonderful job. It has now been a month and I have had no issues with the band.

  Visited as part of organised tour. Some interesting information given. Free cup of tea. Fairly high pressure selling after the tour, gems cheaper than the UK.
