::Good location directly on the beach, but also close to the train tracks. We didn't mind at all about the occasional train rattling, but if you're sensitive, it might be something to consider. Bathroom could use an update, but otherwise fine. Very friendly staff and owner/jack-of-all-trades Roy.

::Located away from the busy Galle-Colombo highway and hidden in the coconut palm grove on the beach, this place is an ideal getaway to chill out and relax. Being a tourist oriented hotel, this place can get rather busy during the season with much of their Russian clientele. My wife and I discovered this place quite by chance when we went looking for a quiet place to eat when we were on our honeymoon. The car park is on the landside of the railway line and you've got to cross the bridge, which is also a part of the hotel construction...unique in a way. The surrounding coconut palms give a nostalgic feel to the place, almost like going back in time to the pre-development era when Sri Lanka was tranquil and beautiful. Food portions are good. Although taste could be better. We ordered mix fried rice and chicken side dish. The pool is large and surrounded by the tall swinging coconut trees. I wish they didn't keep cutting the trees to make more room for expansion though. The beach is large and pretty. But the stray dogs that hang around may be cause for concern, especially since they seem to use the beach to go about their toilet business as well. Worse off though is the dirty canal that runs in to the sea. This seems to carry all kinds of swill and garbage right in to the sea. Greatly disappointing, considering that this spot is very good potential to have a nice sea bath instead of having to worry about the health hazards it poses.Sorry to say but the collection of garbage even on the beach was very ugly and of course unhygienic. So, please be aware of this when using the beach. All in all, Roy Villa is a ok place to chill out. The rooms although not 5 star, are alright if you're the kind of person who does not look for luxuries. The hall ways and general areas of the hotel badly need a new paint job and some re-doing. I guess, this may happen closer to season before the tourists start coming in.

::I was on a short business trip. Spacious rooms (stayed in a sea view). Friendly staff. But food needs to be improved a lot. Easy access to beach. Cleanliness can be improved.
