The slab inscription of Mahapali refectory (මහාපාලි දානශාලා පුවරු ලිපිය) has been inscribed by king Mihindu IV in 972 AD. The inscription records the rules for the administration of the lands and villages belonging to the royal family and the rules to set apart the portion of produce from the land for the maintenance of the temple of tooth-relic nearby. Written in medieval Sinhalese script
